Will A Remote Start void My Warranty?
No, According To The Magnuson Moss Act
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act, a vehicle manufacturer may not make its vehicle warranty conditional on the use of any brand of security system unless the manufacturer provides the system free of charge or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has specifically published that only the vehicle manufacturer’s product may be used. To challenge a false claim, ask the person to put it in writing, or request the vehicle manufacturer’s security system free of charge. If you are charged for the security system, or they refuse to give you a written statement, there may be a violation of Federal law. This is the actual language of the act: No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer’s using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this sub-section may be waived by the Commission if:
- the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
- the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.
The district courts of the United States shall have jurisdiction of any action brought by the Attorney General (in his capacity as such), or by the Commission by any of its attorneys designated by it for such purpose, to restrain (A) any warrantor from making a deceptive warranty with respect to a consumer product, or (B) any person from failing to comply with any requirement imposed on such person or pursuant to this chapter or from violating any prohibition contained in this chapter.

We travel all over New England performing installs everyday. I started my business at my dads garage back in 1988, dad's garage was there since 1934 so made a great place to start. They did car repairs there and also towing, I had much experience with stolen cars since we towed for the Lawrence police, back in the late 80's we were towing somewhere around 100 stolen cars per week and this is how Steve's Security was born. I had thought there must be a way to prevent auto theft and at that time I started with a car alarm brand called Steal Stopper (now Python) I stayed at my dads shop until 1992 where we moved to Merrimack street Lawrence where we had a larger shop and stayed there for 17 years. We moved from there to our shop in Salem where we now are, I wanted to be in NH where we are sales tax free. We added fleet installation about 10 years ago, by adding fleet it expanded my knowledge of vehicles to include large trucks, buses, light and heavy construction equipment. We install work for the largest leasing companies installing various products for the fleet industry. We are the only shop that I know of who covers installations at our shop as well as all of New England, NY & NJ plus south eastern Canada. to be continued...

These brand names are all built with all of the same quality in mind and do not differ from one to another and we sell all of them with same confidence. I have to say there are many people out there willing to sell you a product for way less money at times, places like craigslist or facebook. I can tell you from experience that many of these people are fly by nights and wont be there 30 years from now to support you when your remote control breaks or you need a battery. I have been doing this since I was a young kid and will be doing it when im very old... unless I hit powerball.
